Personal legal representative was denied access and Hekmati was represented by a court-appointe d lawyer who had not been briefed by the defendant. 09 Jan 2012: Sentenced to death by execution. 20 days to appeal. late Jan 2012: Mother travelled to Iran and visited him several times in Evin prison.
